How to Flip a Blog

By Anthony Feint

Flipping a blog usually involves buying a blog, adding value to it and then selling it. As blogs are a hot property right now, it can be a very profitable business to be involved in. Here is how to flip a blog.

Firstly, you need to decide whether you are going to purchase a blog that has already been built or a new domain name. A prebuilt blog, is usually sold by the owner when they no longer have the time or motivation to keep things going. So they try and get rid of it and often you can pick up a great bargain. Most blogs are sold through webmaster forums and marketplaces.

If you want to build a blog to sell on a new domain, then register it at your favorite registrar. Buying a new domain will require significantly more time and effort to flip, however it will be cheaper. Once you've got a new domain, its simply a matter of installing the free blogging platform, WordPress.

The next step involves adding value to the blog so you can sell it for a higher price than you purchased it for. There are numerous ways to add value, but its best to stick with the basics. Adding content, will dramatically increase a sites value as webmasters will pay top dollar for unique content. You can also improve the blogs design, add backlinks and traffic, all of which will increase its value.

Increasing a sites value does take time. Expect to hold onto a blog for at least 2 months before selling it again. If you sell to early, you'll miss out on achieving its full value.

Selling a blog can be done at same webmaster marketplaces you purchased the blog from in the first place. Make sure you use persuasive sales copy when listing the blog. Selling a blog is an art and does take practice.
