Introduction to Domain Reselling
By Martin Callahan

So you've obtained a domain and you'd like to make money via that domain. One way, to begin with, is the method of domain reselling. What this means is this: once you have acquired a domain through a registrar, you may choose to sell it. However, there are a number of steps you must remember to take before considering to resell.

For starters, remember that .com gTLDs are the most sought after domains. A large percentage of customers will be looking for a.com domain. Because of this, it would be a good idea to focus on.com. However, due to the obvious popularity of the .com domain, choosing a domain name that will attract potential buyers, and you may feel limited for choice..com alone has over 100,000,000 registrations in total, and that number is rapidly climbing. If registering for a.com domain name is proving to be impossible and you cannot think of a good domain name that will sell then consider registering for an international domain (ccTLD). International domains are more likely to have premium domains that are available for registration. International domains may also help with putting you high up on the Google ranking list for regional sites. You may also try registering for other generic domain names, such as.org or.net.

What is your domain name? For a name to sell, it has to appeal. It has to catch the eye. You should try to appeal to a particular market. For example, if your domain has a keyword regarding, say, the automotive industry, it may appeal more to those working in that industry. Avoid naming your domain an obscure brand name, as potential buyers may overlook it.

Research is a key word for a domain reseller. Research as much as you can about markets, industries, and domain names that are selling. Research for registrars that are willing to offer you discounted prices for domains - you will want to register for a domain as cheaply as you can if you are looking to resell and make a comfortable profit. Be certain the registrar is ICANN-accredited, as ICANN is the organisation that overlooks the Internet's vast system of unique identifiers. Registering for a domain via a registrar if you are looking to resell will simplify matters and make it simpler for you to resell without having to know too much about the technical aspects.
